Couples Photoshoot on the Amalfi Coast: Positano and the Sea Light
How to plan a couples shoot among Positano’s staircases and seaside terraces, with the best light timings and practical tips on getting around.
The Amalfi Coast is an amphitheatre of pastel houses tumbling to the sea — the perfect backdrop for a couples shoot. But the steep terrain and crowds call for strategy. Here is how to move.
The best light: early morning and golden hour
Positano faces south-east, so morning light (7:00 - 9:00 AM) grazes the colourful facades and avoids harsh shadows. Alternatively, the hour before sunset bathes the sea in warm tones. At midday the contrast is too strong for portraits.
The spots: staircases and Fornillo Beach
The flower-lined staircases in the centre are iconic but crowded: climb towards Via Pasitea for quieter corners. Fornillo Beach, a short walk away, offers a backdrop of boats and cliffs without the bustle of the main beach.
Getting around and real timings
Forget the car: parking costs up to €5 an hour and traffic is heavy. Walking between spots needs comfortable shoes and about a 90-minute session. For couples short on time, we focus the shoot on a single village rather than chasing several towns.
