The Best Photography Spots in Florence: A Golden Hour Guide
Where and when to shoot in Florence — from Piazzale Michelangelo to Ponte Vecchio and the Boboli Gardens — with precise light timings and permit notes.
Florence packs some of Italy's most photographed views into a few square kilometres. The trick is to beat the crowds and follow the light. Here are our three favourite spots.
1. Piazzale Michelangelo at sunrise
This is the classic postcard of the city and Brunelleschi's dome. Arrive between 6:30 and 7:15 AM: the terrace is almost empty and a golden light sets the terracotta rooftops glowing. No permit is needed for handheld shoots.
2. Ponte Vecchio from Ponte Santa Trinita
To photograph the Ponte Vecchio without standing on it, set up on Ponte Santa Trinita. At sunset the Arno mirrors the ochre houses and creates perfect symmetry for couple portraits. Avoid midday: overhead sun flattens the colours.
3. Boboli and Bardini Gardens
For elegant and fine-art portraits, the gardens offer cypress avenues, fountains and views over the city. Entry has a fee (around €10) and professional tripods require authorisation: we work handheld to stay nimble.
